Beginner Friendly Rag Quilt

This quilt is so simple and SEW fun!  It is a soft and cuddly quilt, and it makes a great, quick gift.

You may use scraps or a layer cake for this quilt.  This is a technique class.  You will leave with the skills to complete the quilt, but you probably will not finish your quilt in class.

Beginning sewing skills are a prerequisite for this class.  You should be comfortable threading your machine, winding a bobbin, changing needles, and changing stitches on a sewing machine.

Bring your own machine and manual.  YOUR MACHINE MUST BE IN GOOD WORKING ORDER FOR THIS CLASS.  If you need to rent a machine let us know.  There is a $25 fee for machine rental. If you purchase a machine from us, the rental applies towards the purchase.

Class is taught by Melinda Brown.

Supplies available at the shop.  Receive a 10% discount on supplies purchased for this class. 

Basic recommended supplies:

• Sewing machine in good working order with foot pedal and power cord
• Layer cake or 40-10" squares.  You may use cotton but many people use flannel because it frays better.  You can also use old cotton shirts (not knit T-shirts) for a memory quilt!
• Backing fabric (also cut into 10" squares).  Your backing can be all the same or scrappy
• Scissors or snips. There are special rag quilting scissors available.
• Thread that coordinates with all your fabric.
• Seam ripper
• Rotary Cutter
• Mat (optional)
• Ruler

You may bring a water bottle and or snacks.  We have sodas, bottled water and chips available for .50 cents.  Small refrigerator available for use.

By attending classes at our store, you consent to being photographed and/or recorded during class activities.  We may use these images for promotional purposes, including on our website, social media, and marketing materials.  If you prefer not to be included, please notify us in writing in advance of the class.

Cancellation Policy

Thank you for signing up for a class at Sewcial Creatives.  To be respectful of our teachers the following cancellation policy will be strictly adhered to. 

CANCELLATIONS OR RESCHEDULING (IF AVAILABLE) MUST BE IN PERSON OR BY PHONE DURING BUSINESS HOURS.

Class fees are fully refundable only if cancellation or rescheduling (if available) is made at least 7 days prior to the class. If you cancel or reschedule at least 4 days but less than 7 days prior to the class date, class fees are 50% refundable for a store credit.  If you cancel or reschedule 3 days or less prior to the date of the class, your class fees will not be refunded.
